HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM COACH NICKLES!!!!!!!!!!

After our extra long break the students came back to some fitness running. All classes participated in about a week to a week and a half of endurance running or running activities.

Since then we have been moving to our next sport with the 6th through 8th grade classes: BASKETBALL.

For the basketball unit we change our warm up run to what we call Quarters.  This running is correlated with the sport of basketball that helps students get physically endured for short bursts of speed.

Next, we will move into skill development(dribbling, passing, shooting and defense).  Once we are confident the classes have gained enough skills we will proceed with lead-up games or gameplay.

Our student teacher(Ms. Grijalva) will be working with a small group of students on advanced fitness.  The group she is working with are students that chose not to participate in gameplay for the basketball unit.  "Don't work them too hard Ms. Grijalva!"

As for our 4th and 5th grade classes have been doing some basketball skills.  We try to give these classes more skill development time and then after will do a plethora of lead-up games.

Next on the ladder are our 1st-3rd graders.  We started with reviewing of our rules and expectations after the break.  Then we moved to relays with locomotor skills and parachute activities.

Last but not least, Pre-K and Kindergarten have been fine tuning their locomotor skills and simple tag games.

stay tuned for more updates from Coach Nickles.............
